Service

Service is one of the main aspects of alpha Kappa Delta Phi. We have participated in many events and continue to work with other organizations to give back to the community.

Whether it's educating ourselves, broadening our views and perspectives of our environment, or just plain having fun, we always feel that each project is an opportunity to experience something new. Looking back upon all that we've done, we feel a huge sense of satisfaction in ourselves and in each other. It is also a good feeling knowing that we are a sorority acknowledged for our service to the community.

"During the past year, fifteen alpha Kappa Delta Phi members visited Seattle Keiro nursing home three times to help residents' activities. They sang songs for them and with them, helped making crafts, played games with them, talked to them and most of all, their visits brightened up the residents' day at Keiro! Residents are looking forward to their next visit. It is good to know that there is a group of young people who care about elderly and devote their time to them the way these folks did."- Hiromi Tamura,

Keiro Nursing home (1999-2004): at a predominantly Japanese American nursing home, we played games, made arts & crafts, sang, and conversed with the elderly
Clothing drives (1999-2000) bringing in over 35 large bags of clothing to the Salvation Army to provide clothing for the less fortunate during the winter (2000-01) setting up donation bins across campus and within our neighborhoods. 25 bags and 5 boxes full of clothing were donated to the Union Gospel Mission
Adopt-a-road program: Cleaning 2 miles of roadway 2 times a year- a significant community service, contributing to a cleaner environment
From Hiroshima to Hope (2000-2002): a lattern floating ceremony in remembrance of the lives that were lost in the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Volunteers for Pista Sa Nayon (2001-2002)
Volunteers for Elaine Chow (2001)
Brown Bag Lunch Project (1999-2001): handing out over 150 brown bag lunches to the homeless of Downtown Seattle
Team Vietnam: raising money to clothe, feed, and send a young girl to school for five months. (picture of the girl we helped)
Adopt-a-shelter (1999-2000): Women and family shelter of Union Gospel Mission
Project Philippines (1999-2000): a clothing and school supply drive held, with all proceeds donated to young children in the Philippines (get recipients pictures!)
Rise-n-shine(1997-98): a non-profit organization that provides gifts and clothing during the holidays to children with parents that have died or are dying of HIV/AIDS.
Elementary Tile Project (1997-98): helping to build a collage of tile artwork at a local elementary school
University Food Bank (1997-98): a non-profit organization that helps teens and low-income families in the University District.
