All sorority girls are known to be party girls.
Partying is a common stereotype of the Greek system. Every sister has her own personality and lifestyle, and for many, partying is not a priority. Although partying is not out of the agenda, neither is school, family, friends, significant others, etc. aKDPhi also strives to promote sisterhood, leadership, scholarship, and Asian awareness, which are the main ideals of the organization.
This sorority is only for Asian Americans.
Our sorority is an Asian American INTEREST sorority. We have a focus on Asian American issues and community service but we are not Asian American exclusive. Nationwide combined, we have sisters who represent different ethnic origins including but not limited to Asian, Pacific Islander, African American, Hispanic, and Caucasian. As an organization that encourages diversity, we welcome all interested ladies to rush regardless of race or religion.
You have to pay extremely high dues to be a member.
There are house dues to be paid every quarter, but they are of an extremely reasonable amount (most likely the lowest of any Greek organization, since we do not have a house to live in). aKDPhi is a non-profit organization, therefore all the money paid in dues goes right back to the members. The money commonly goes towards parties, gifts, sisterhoods, service projects, social events, food, rush, and other fun activities.
You have to live in a sorority house.
Our sorority is unique, in that it does not have a house; therefore many girls often live at home, in the dorms, or apartments. Living in a house does not constitute being in a sorority. The foundation of our sorority is built on the quality of our sisterhood, not a house. At this time, we have no desire in finding a house, but it is not out of the question sometime in the near future.
Pledge will affect my grades.
As students at the University of Washington, our main purpose here is to focus on our academic careers, therefore we strive for those goals of academic excellence. Also, with support from our sisters, it is hard to slack off without someone helping you along the way. We do have a minimum G.P.A. to pledge and expect girls to prioritize their time to achieving those standards. There have been many sisters who, during pledge also made the dean's list. It is not impossible to pledge and succeed in school. It is in fact, extremely plausible. |
