Philanthropy

This year, more than 180,000 women in the United States will learn for the first time that they have breast cancer, and more than 40,000 women will lose their lives. Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women in America; however, early detection and prompt treatment can significantly reduce the suffering and deaths caused by this disease. Alpha Kappa Delta Phi proudly promotes our National Philanthropy - Breast Cancer Awareness, a project which is dedicated to increasing public knowledge about the early detection of breast cancer.

In 1998, alpha Kappa Delta Phi launched our first-ever national service project. Through our 22 chapter effort, we dedicated 1998-99 to Breast Cancer Awareness by educating ourselves, our college campuses, and our communities. These are just some of our accomplishments each year:

  • Thousands are raised each year and donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation.
  • Over 15 chapters participate in the Race for the Cure.
  • Every chapter hosts a Breast Cancer Awareness forum, workshop, or informational booth on their campus.
  • Every chapter dedicates at least one service project in the month of October to Breast Cancer Awareness.
  • Pink Ribbons were worn by all active KDPhis nationwide, throughout the week of October 5th - 11th in honor of Breast Cancer survivors and victims.

What we're doing...here at UW?

  • Holding a Breast Cancer Awareness Annual Talent Showcase, wherein all of our proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen foundation.
  • Contributing extra money to the Susan G. Komen Foundation Race for the Cure, and signing up as volunteers.
  • Setting up Breast Cancer Info Booths @ By George and the dorms to hand out breast exam cards, facts and figures, and Q&A all on breast cancer awareness
  • Selling pink ribbons along with mini info cards for donations - Total amount raised $820.00
